DARIUS BARNES
DARIUS BARNES, a native of Baltimore, began training at various schools in Maryland. He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, until his acceptance to the School of American Ballet in 2004, where he received the Rudolf Nureyev & the Estelle Dennis Scholarships. During his formal training, he also studied at prestigious schools such as the Kirov Ballet Academy, Chautauqua Institute, Pacific Northwest Ballet & the American Ballet Theatre. In 2007, he was offered an apprenticeship with the New York City Ballet & was invited to join the corps de ballet in 2008. In 2010, he joined the Suzanne Farrell Ballet & was invited to be an artist with the Dance Theatre of Harlem in 2014. As an actor, Darius is currently in Roundabout Theater Company’s Broadway revival of Kiss Me Kate, starring Will Chase & Kelli O’Hara. He made his Broadway & Principal debut in the Tony Award-winning musical, Memphis. On Broadway, he's also been seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark & Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella. As a choreographer, he was asked to participate in the 2007, 2008, & 2009 spring & summer sessions of the New York Choreographic Institute. For the Institute’s 10th anniversary celebration in 2010, he was asked to create a work on the New York City Ballet for the occasion.
