hear from our alumni

The layers of guidance and support I received at MOVE|NYC| have been instrumental in shaping my development as an artist. Since 15, MOVE| has fueled my growth. Now a 2024 Princess Grace Award Winner, I am proud to celebrate my achievements with the family that has continuously uplifted me. I am and will continue to flourish as an artist through hard work and the invaluable aid of my mentors.
MJ Edwards (2019)
Limon Dance Company
I learned how to be both patient with my growth, and demanding of the excellence that I was capable of. I learned how to show up for myself by way of discipline, self-care, and radical confidence. Since I took my dreams seriously, so did MOVE. I am so grateful to have been part of this program that set me up for success first at the University of Michigan, and now on Broadway performing in a dance-heavy track 8 times a week.

A Wonderful World on Broadway
I had the pleasure of joining MOVE|NYC| at the age of 14. Now, as I am a Senior at The Juilliard School, I constantly reflect on how MOVE|NYC| has impacted me to be the most prepared artist and professional I can be. MOVE exposed me to the world, and everything that dance can offer. They facilitated a space where I can dream, take risks, discover, and make those dreams a reality. Cheers to more dreaming!
Jeremy Villas (2021)
The Juilliard School
Before joining the MOVE| family, I was a kid with unformed talent and little confidence. I lacked the tools needed to become extraordinary. When I joined MOVE|NYC| the inaugural year, it not only gave me access to world-class dance training, but it also instilled in me the belief that I could achieve greatness. Through their unwavering support, I grew not only as an artist but as a black human navigating this world.

Nigel and Chanel made MOVE|NYC| a home for a Queens girl like me to develop my artistry. They challenged me to dream bigger than I could have imagined. As an “OG” Young Professional, after 10 phenomenal years of MOVE|NYC|, I am beyond proud and honored to see how far it has come and continues to go!. My only hope is that the next generation always remembers that “they have nothing to prove and everything to share.
Raven Joseph (2019)

There was a time when I thought pursuing a career in dance was impossible. Nigel and Chanel gave me 1:1 guidance, not just in the studio but outside of it as well! We learned about all the realities of the profession, which went far beyond just dancing skills. In 2024 I graduated from my dream school, USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, and I’m now in my first season with Saint Louis Dance Theatre.
Jada Vaughn (2020)
Saint Louis Dance Theater
I attribute much of my success in the dance world to attending MOVElNYCl’s Young Professionals Program. MOVE took the raw talent I had and pushed it into overdrive by forcing me to hold myself accountable and refusing to accept anything my personal best. While at MOVE, I learned to have a higher standard for myself and consciously work towards it. I am forever grateful for what I learned while there and take it with me in every walk of life.
Nyoka Wortoson (2020)

MOVE|NYC| provided me with insight and tools to navigate the dance world at a very young age. Now that I am older and have been working in the dance industry for some years, I am able to face difficult moments by referring back to what I learned during my time as a YP. It’s crazy to think back on those simple teachings, and how beneficial they are in my life today. MOVE|NYC| is so special and I am excited to see what the upcoming years have in store!

I will carry my experience at MOVE for a lifetime. I feel so grateful to have been pushed and nurtured far beyond what I thought I could possibly achieve. Now, years after graduating from the Young Professionals Program and dancing professionally in the real world, I can confidently say that MOVE has given me the tools to keep investing in my growth, humility, determination and most importantly, learning more each day about my own artistry and life. There is no place like it!
Alex Haskins (2019)
Hofesh Shechter Company (U.K.)

My time with MOVE was nothing short of inspirational and eye opening. The moment I became part of the MOVE family, I was constantly exposed to new ideas of what the art form of dance can be. I had a multitude of opportunities to work with incredible artists in the field and left the program with deep clarity about my artistic aspirations. The valuable lessons and gems I received at MOVE|NYC| have molded me into the artist I am today at Ballet BC in Canada.

Kelsey Lewis (2021)

When I look back on my training as a MOVE|NYC| Young Professional, one word comes to mind: TRANSFORMATIVE! This incredible program pushed me to dig deeper and go beyond my perceived capacity. The road wasn’t always an easy one, but it was exactly what I needed to grow as an artist and opened tangible doors for my future success. If time reversed, I would do it all over again, and again, and again.
