ADAM BERNSTEIN

Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Adam Bernstein investigates the bodymind system and its connection with the environment.

Exploring movement forms since the age of eight, they have been privileged to receive extraordinary training opportunities: beginning at the Marat Daukayev Ballet School and Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, they also studied at the Boston Ballet School, the Joffrey Concert Group in New York, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), the Royal Swedish Ballet School, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, and the Ballet Junior de Genève.

They have been recognized by Prix de Lausanne and the National YoungArts Foundation, and received the Presidential Scholars award from Barack Obama in 2015.

In February of 2019, Adam will receive their Bachelor's degree from Columbia University as a dance major. Their thesis interacted with Chisa Hidaka, Jill Sigman, and Jody Sperling—three dancemakers in NYC who contribute to the interdisciplinary conversation between performance studies and ecology. They argue that the experimental dances these artists make are vital forms of climate action.
